​​​​My name is Dr. Kathleen Shaughnessy, and I am a licensed veterinarian and the owner of Mountain Top Kennels. I became a veterinarian to help animals and the people who love them. I do everything possible to make sure that the dogs staying here are happy, healthy and stress free. I want you to be able to enjoy your time away without worrying about your dog's care. This is my labor of love!

At Mountain Top Kennels our mission is that your dog has so much fun they want to come back again!

We treat your dog the way you do, and specialize in personalized care. Our kennel has been intentionally limited to a manageable number of runs so we can provide the individualized care that dogs receive at home.  Mountain Top is owned and managed by Dr. Kathleen Shaughnessy, a licensed veterinarian - so your pet is in great hands!

Mountain Top Kennels is located on a 10 acre fenced and gated residential property in a quiet county setting in Newberg, Oregon. Each dog or dog family has a run which consists of an indoor (4x4) and covered outdoor (4x10) area. The dogs can come and go as they please during the day, but everybody is secured inside at night. Our kennel is climate controlled, with heated floors for the cold months and air conditioning for the hot summer days (if needed).

Dogs are taken outside for the first time around 7:00 AM and for the last time around 9:30 PM.  They will go outside an additional 4-6 times in between for a total of 6-8 outings each day.  They will be out on 1 of 3 beautiful grass fields to go potty and play.  Your dog will be allowed (with your permission) to play with other same size dogs if they are social and get along with friends.

It is healthier for your dog to remain on his/her current diet, so we ask that you bring your own food. We provide feeding and drinking bowls.

Customers often ask what they should do to make their pet’s stay more comfortable. We often suggest that you  bring your dog’s clean bed, a favorite toy, a bone and/or something that smells like home. Most of the time we find that the dogs are so excited to be here that we don’t have to worry about anyone getting “homesick” – except maybe their owners!

As an additional service to our customers, your dog will receive a complimentary freshen-up bath after 5 paid days.
